Algarve's LS Engenharia Joins the Space Race with ESA

The Algarve company LS Engenharia Geográfica, is the name of the Algarve company that recently signed a contract with the Agência Espacial Europeia (ESA) for the development of projects, in the next two years, within the scope of geospatial engineering.

Similar to NASA, in the USA, ESA is an intergovernmental organization made up of 22 Member States. This European agency, with an annual budget of €6.70 billion, is dedicated to space exploration, acting as Europe's gateway to space and having as its mission to plan the development of its capabilities, ensuring that investment in space continues to bring benefits to European citizens. ESA works closely with non-European space organizations.

LS Engenharia Geográfica: Pioneer in Space Exploration in the Iberian Peninsula

A LS Engenharia enters the space race, as it was one of the European companies selected at the end of 2020 under the ESA Space Solutions Program, a program to support the development and growth of startups connected to geospatial technologies. LS Engenharia Geográfica, headquartered in Faro, specializes in the production of digital cartography, focusing on land and maritime environmental protection, and since 2019, in addition to the partnerships established with universities, it has made investments in the areas of scientific and technological research, becoming a pioneer in the Peninsula Iberia, in the creation of new terrestrial observation services using satellites.

LS Engenharia Geográfica bringing Space Technology to the Coastal Ranges

During the next 2 years, LS Engenharia Geográfica will receive technical and financial support from ESA for the development of terrestrial observation services, at a global level, one of which foresees the creation of software and specific hydrographic information systems for the study of coastal strips and support for maritime navigation in areas not covered by official nautical cartography.

From Faro to Cosmos

It should be noted that this type of program, in addition to promoting business relationships between startups will also encourage the transfer of technologies and capital to our region, catapulting it across borders, to the highest level of engineering.
